Dipole

A pair of equal and opposite charges or poles separated by a small distance, creating an electric or magnetic field. In geophysics, a dipole source or receiver configuration is used in electromagnetic and acoustic logging tools. Dipole sonic tools measure shear wave velocities in slow formations.
