Cross dipole
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000894
An acoustic logging measurement that uses dipole transmitters and receivers oriented orthogonally to each other to measure shear wave anisotropy in a formation. The tool records shear wave travel times and polarizations, which reveal the fast and slow shear directions. The orientation of the fast shear wave azimuth is interpreted as the direction of maximum horizontal stress, while the magnitude of the anisotropy indicates the degree of stress difference or intrinsic rock fabric alignment.
