Crop out
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000893
To be exposed at the Earth's surface, as when a rock layer, fault, or other geological feature intersects the ground level. These surface exposures, known as outcrops, allow for direct observation, measurement, and sampling of rock formations without the need for drilling. Geologists map the locations and orientations of outcrops to interpret the subsurface structure and stratigraphy of a region.
