Outcrop
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002651
An exposure of bedrock or an older geological formation at the Earth's surface, unobscured by soil or recent sediments. Geologists study outcrops to observe rock types, depositional structures, and faulting directly, providing data that can be extrapolated to the subsurface. These surface exposures serve as direct analogs for understanding the characteristics of buried reservoir formations.
