Unconformity

A buried surface within a sequence of rock layers that represents a period of erosion or non-deposition, indicating a gap in the geological record. It separates older rocks below from younger rocks above, often with different orientations or rock types. Unconformities can serve as traps for hydrocarbon accumulation or as pathways for fluid migration.
