Hiatal
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001818
Relating to a hiatus, which is a break or gap in the geologic record where a rock unit is absent due to a period of non-deposition or erosion. A hiatal surface, such as an unconformity, separates younger rocks from significantly older ones, representing a period of missing geologic time. The duration of the hiatus is the time difference between the age of the strata immediately below and immediately above the surface of discontinuity.
