Hiatus

A break or gap in the geological record, representing a period during which no deposition occurred or during which previously deposited strata were eroded. It indicates a period of non-deposition or erosion, often associated with tectonic uplift or sea-level fall. Unconformities in sedimentary sequences are physical manifestations of a hiatus.
