Sequence

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003337

A relatively conformable succession of genetically related rock strata bounded by unconformities or their correlative surfaces. A sequence represents a full cycle of sea-level change, from fall to rise and back to fall, and contains predictable patterns of depositional systems. These units are the fundamental building blocks of sequence stratigraphy, a method for analyzing sedimentary rocks in a chronostratigraphic framework.
