Walther's law
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004080
A fundamental principle in stratigraphy stating that in a conformable vertical succession of facies, those facies were deposited in laterally adjacent environments. This law implies that a vertical sequence of sedimentary rocks reflects the lateral changes in depositional environments that occurred over time. It is a key tool for interpreting ancient depositional settings from well logs and core data.
