Depositional system
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001009
A three-dimensional assemblage of genetically related sedimentary facies that were formed within a specific set of depositional environments. These systems link together environments that are active at the same time, such as a river (fluvial system) feeding a delta (deltaic system) which in turn builds out into a basin (marine system). The concept is used to predict the distribution and geometry of reservoir, source, and seal rocks on a basin-wide scale.
