Depositional energy
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001007
The kinetic energy of the geological agent, such as water or wind, responsible for transporting and depositing sediments. High depositional energy environments, like fast-flowing rivers, typically deposit coarse-grained sediments like sand and gravel. Low energy environments, such as deep marine basins, deposit fine-grained sediments like mud and clay.
