Lacustrine

Relating to or formed in a lake, describing a depositional environment and the resulting sediments. Lacustrine systems can deposit organic-rich muds that become excellent hydrocarbon source rocks, as well as sandstones that form reservoir facies. The Green River Formation in the western United States is a classic example of a lacustrine deposit that contains vast oil shale resources.
