Paludal

Relating to or formed in a marshy or swampy environment, characterized by shallow, stagnant water and abundant vegetation. Paludal deposits often consist of organic-rich muds and peats, which can become excellent source rocks for coal and, under certain conditions, hydrocarbons. These environments are common in deltaic and coastal plain settings.
