Reef
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003073
A carbonate buildup formed by the skeletal remains of marine organisms, such as corals, algae, and mollusks, in shallow, warm marine environments. These structures can develop substantial porosity and permeability, making them excellent hydrocarbon reservoirs. Reefs are often characterized by complex internal geometries and high production rates.
