Marl

A sedimentary rock composed of a mixture of clay and calcium carbonate, typically containing 35% to 65% carbonate. It forms in marine or freshwater environments where both clay and calcareous sediments accumulate. Marls can act as cap rocks or seals for hydrocarbon reservoirs due to their low permeability.
