Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002286
A type of wetland characterized by herbaceous vegetation, such as grasses, reeds, and sedges, that is submerged or saturated by water for extended periods. Marshes form in coastal areas, river deltas, and floodplains, accumulating organic matter that can contribute to the formation of peat and, over geological time, coal or source rocks. They are distinguished from swamps by the absence of trees.
