Alluvium

Unconsolidated sediment deposited by flowing water, including rivers, streams, and floods. It comprises a mixture of sand, gravel, silt, and clay, sorted and stratified by the water's energy. Alluvium forms extensive deposits in floodplains, river terraces, and deltas, and can host hydrocarbon accumulations when buried and lithified.
