Clastic sediment

Material consisting of fragments, or clasts, of pre-existing rocks and minerals that have been transported and deposited by physical processes like water, wind, or ice. The resulting sedimentary rocks, such as sandstone, shale, and conglomerate, are classified based on the size of these constituent grains. Grain size ranges from clay (less than 1/256 mm) and silt to sand, pebbles, cobbles, and boulders (greater than 256 mm).
