Describing a sedimentary rock, sediment, or mineral deposit that is sand-sized or composed primarily of sand grains. The term is applied to clastic rocks like sandstone, which are defined by grain sizes ranging from 0.0625 to 2 millimeters in diameter. These rocks form in environments with sufficient energy to transport and deposit sand, such as beaches, rivers, and deserts, and they constitute many of the world's conventional hydrocarbon reservoirs.
