Areal sweep efficiency
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000175
The fraction of the reservoir area contacted by an injected fluid during a displacement process, such as waterflooding or gas injection. It quantifies how effectively the injected fluid spreads horizontally across the reservoir. Areal sweep efficiency is influenced by the mobility ratio of the fluids, reservoir heterogeneity, and the well pattern, typically ranging from 0.5 to 0.8 in many operations.
