Water alternating gas (WAG)

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004086

An enhanced oil recovery method involving the sequential injection of slugs of water and gas into a reservoir. This process, known as water alternating gas (WAG), combines the microscopic sweep efficiency of gas flooding with the macroscopic sweep efficiency of waterflooding. The injected gas can be miscible or immiscible with the reservoir oil, and the cycle of water and gas injection is repeated multiple times to maximize oil displacement.
