Water block

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004087

A reduction or cessation of hydrocarbon flow into the wellbore caused by the invasion of water into the pore spaces of the reservoir rock, particularly near the wellbore. This can occur during drilling, completion, or workover operations when water-based fluids are used, or from water influx from an aquifer. The water can reduce the relative permeability to oil or gas, hindering production.
