A reduction in the permeability of a reservoir rock near the wellbore, hindering the flow of oil or gas into the well. This can be caused by drilling fluids, completion fluids, or fine particle migration during production. Formation damage can significantly reduce well productivity and requires remedial treatments like acidizing or fracturing.
