Damaged zone

The region of the reservoir rock immediately surrounding the wellbore that has experienced a reduction in permeability due to drilling, completion, or production operations. This damage can be caused by invasion of drilling fluids, cement filtrate, or fine solids, hindering the flow of hydrocarbons into the well. Perforating aims to bypass or mitigate the effects of this zone.
