Mechanical skin

Damage to the formation around the wellbore caused by drilling, completion, or perforating operations, which impedes fluid flow into the well. This damage can result from drilling fluid invasion, cement filtrate, or crushed rock around perforations. Mechanical skin reduces the effective permeability of the near-wellbore region.
