Mechanical jar

A downhole tool designed to deliver an impact force to free stuck objects or to activate other tools in the wellbore. It operates by storing and then suddenly releasing energy, either upward or downward, through a spring-loaded mechanism. Mechanical jars are frequently used in fishing operations or to set packers.
