Jar

A downhole tool run in the drill string or tubing string that delivers an impact load to free stuck pipe or tools. It operates by storing and then suddenly releasing energy, either mechanically or hydraulically, to create an upward or downward hammer blow. Jars are activated by manipulating the drill string weight or pressure.
