Free-point indicator

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004342

A downhole tool run on wireline to locate the deepest point where a stuck pipe string, such as tubing or drill pipe, is free to move within the wellbore. It works by measuring the pipe's response to applied stretch and torque from the surface, detecting minute changes in length or rotation. The tool's sensors pinpoint the boundary between the free and stuck sections, and this depth is used to determine where to sever the pipe for retrieval.
