Free point

The deepest point in a stuck tubular string, such as drill pipe or casing, where the pipe is no longer mechanically bound to the wellbore. Above this point, the pipe can still rotate or stretch freely, while below it, the pipe is stuck. Determining the free point is a preliminary step before attempting to recover the stuck section or sever the pipe.
