Tubular jar
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003949
A downhole tool run as part of a workover or fishing string that delivers a sudden, high-impact axial blow to a stuck object. It stores energy, either mechanically in a spring or hydraulically in a fluid chamber, and releases it when a predetermined tensile or compressive load is applied. The impact force, which can exceed 100,000 pounds-force, is intended to free stuck packers, plugs, or other downhole components without over-pulling the workstring.
