A collective name for the cylindrical steel pipes used in drilling and completing a well. This category includes drill pipe, casing, tubing, liners, and drill collars, all of which are manufactured to specific standards for diameter, wall thickness, grade of steel, and thread type. The American Petroleum Institute (API) publishes the primary specifications governing the design, manufacture, and testing of oil country tubular goods.
