Free fluid
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001578
The portion of fluid within a rock's pore space that is mobile and can flow into the wellbore under normal production conditions. This fluid is not bound to mineral surfaces by capillary forces, unlike irreducible water or bound fluid. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) logging tools directly measure the free fluid index (FFI), which represents the volume of free fluid relative to the rock's bulk volume.
