Free air correction
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001577
A correction applied to gravity measurements to account for the elevation of the observation point above a reference datum, assuming that the material between the observation point and the datum has no mass. It corrects for the decrease in gravity with increasing distance from the center of the Earth. This correction is typically positive for stations above sea level and is calculated using a free-air gradient.
