Permanent datum

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002748

The fixed elevation reference to which the well's depths and elevations are tied, recorded on the log header, in practice ground level or mean sea level. Log depths are measured from a separate, movable reference such as the kelly bushing, which the header states as a height above or below the permanent datum. For example, a header gives ground level as the permanent datum with the kelly bushing 20 feet above it.
