Rotary bushing

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003196

A removable steel insert that fits inside the master bushing of the rotary table on a drilling rig. It has an internal profile that matches the shape of the kelly, transmitting torque from the rotary table to the kelly and thus to the drill string. When the kelly is not in use, the kelly bushing is removed and slips are placed in the master bushing to support the drill pipe.
