Kelly

A heavy, four or six-sided steel pipe that is suspended from the swivel and connected to the top of the drill string. It transmits torque from the rotary table through the kelly bushing to the drill string, causing the bit to turn. The kelly has a passageway for drilling fluid to flow from the swivel into the drill string.
