Kelly down

The point in drilling operations when the kelly has been lowered almost its full working length into the wellbore, requiring a new joint of drill pipe to be added to the string. At this stage, drilling is paused, the kelly is raised, and the next section of pipe is connected to continue deepening the well. This process is repeated for each joint of pipe added to the drillstring.
