Mechanical diversion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002315
The use of solid, physical objects to block off perforations or existing fractures to divert stimulation fluids into other sections of a reservoir. This technique is applied during multi-stage fracturing to treat different zones sequentially within a single wellbore. Common mechanical diverters include ball sealers that seat on perforation holes and bridge plugs that provide complete zonal isolation between fracturing stages.
