Crushed zone
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000915
The compacted, fractured layer of rock lining a perforation tunnel, where the shaped-charge jet and its shock wave crushed the grains and cut permeability. It adds a flow restriction called crushed-zone skin, and its thickness depends on rock strength and charge design. Underbalanced perforating is used to surge the crushed debris out of the tunnel.
