Perforate underbalanced
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002734
To create perforations in a cased wellbore while the hydrostatic pressure of the fluid in the well is intentionally kept lower than the formation pressure. This pressure differential causes an immediate surge of reservoir fluids into the wellbore, flushing out crushed rock, charge debris, and drilling mud filtrate from the newly created tunnels. The underbalance pressure is designed to be between 200 and 500 psi, but can be higher in low-permeability reservoirs.
