Stable arch

A self-supporting structure of crushed rock grains that forms around a perforation tunnel in unconsolidated formations. This arch prevents the influx of sand and other formation solids into the wellbore while allowing fluid flow. The stability of the arch depends on the formation's properties and the perforation design.
