Sand production

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003247

The undesirable flow of formation sand into the wellbore along with produced oil, gas, or water. This occurs when the forces exerted by fluid flow exceed the strength of the reservoir rock, causing unconsolidated sand grains to detach. Excessive sand production can erode downhole equipment, plug the wellbore, and lead to costly interventions.
