Sand test

A laboratory procedure to determine the volume percentage of sand-sized particles (larger than 74 microns) in a drilling fluid. This test involves washing a known volume of mud through a 200-mesh screen and measuring the volume of retained solids. High sand content can cause abrasion of drilling equipment and formation damage.
