Sieve analysis
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003403
A laboratory procedure used to determine the particle size distribution of unconsolidated formation sand or gravel pack material. A sample is passed through a series of sieves with progressively smaller mesh openings, and the weight retained on each sieve is measured. The results are used to design effective sand control systems, such as gravel packs, by matching particle sizes.
