Sierpinski gasket
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004446
A fractal object used in reservoir modeling to represent multi-scale porous media and complex fracture systems. It is formed by starting with a triangle and recursively removing the central triangular region from it and from all subsequent smaller triangles. The resulting structure has a characteristic fractal dimension of approximately 1.58 and is used to study how properties like permeability and fluid flow are affected by the hierarchical nature and connectivity of pore networks.
