Seismic modeling
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003313
The process of simulating the propagation of seismic waves through a hypothetical subsurface geological model to predict the resulting seismic response. This technique is used to understand how geological structures will appear on seismic data or to test different geological scenarios. Forward modeling predicts seismic data from a geological model, while inverse modeling infers a geological model from observed seismic data.
