Koch curve
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004370
A fractal geometric shape used to model natural, irregular features in a reservoir, such as complex fracture networks or the boundaries of sedimentary bodies. It is constructed by repeatedly replacing the middle third of a line segment with two sides of an equilateral triangle, creating a pattern of infinite length within a finite area. The fractal dimension of the Koch curve, approximately 1.26, provides a way to quantify the complexity of geological features that are poorly represented by simple Euclidean lines.
