Nested fractal structures
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002521
Geometrical patterns within a rock formation that repeat themselves at progressively smaller or larger scales. These structures are used to model complex reservoir properties like pore-throat distributions, fracture networks, and fluid flow paths where direct measurement is impossible across all scales. The fractal dimension, a non-integer value, quantifies the space-filling complexity of these structures and is an input for advanced reservoir simulation models.
