Udden-Wentworth scale
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003964
A logarithmic grain size scale used to classify clastic sedimentary rocks and sediments, from clay up to boulders. The scale divides particle diameters by a factor of two at each step, creating major classes such as gravel, sand, silt, and clay, which are further subdivided. For example, sand is divided into very coarse, coarse, medium, fine, and very fine categories, with diameters ranging from 2 mm down to 1/16 mm (62.5 micrometers).
