Hardground

A lithified seafloor surface that has been exposed to marine currents and biological activity, resulting in erosion, encrustation, and boring by organisms. Hardgrounds represent periods of non-deposition or erosion in marine sedimentary environments. They can indicate stratigraphic breaks or condensed sections within a sedimentary sequence.
